The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU):
- Is the only Level III Perinatal Service in the area
- Contains 28 bassinets in the High Risk Nursery and an additional 12 in the Special Care Nursery
- Provides intensive care for critically ill newborns, extremely premature newborns, newborns who are facing congenital issues, and newborns requiring surgical intervention
- Opened in the Spring of 2013, and is the area's first Emergency Department devoted entirely to children
- 5,080 square feet comprising 7 treatment rooms and 1 medical screening exam room
- Contains a separate entry and waiting room
- 37,250 pediatric visits; 19,806 pediatric emergency department visits
- 4,079 babies born
- 579 babies spent an average of 24 days in the High Risk Nursery
- 414 babies spent an average of 8 days in the Special Care Nursery
- 1,278 pediatric surgeries
